An avid runner, Abigail "Abby" Kalter turned to social media to find other women interested in running.
"I couldn't find any local running groups, so I posted on Wyckoff Moms to see if anyone was interested in running," said Abby. "There was lots of interest and positive responses."
Abby called the newly formed group the Wyckoff Run Club.
β
Currently a women-only group, there are 25 members.
"We started the group in September and it includes women who are new to running as well as triathletes and marathon runners," said Abby. "I have heard from some men who are interested but we are going to keep it ladies for now."
β
On Saturdays, the group meets at Russell Farms Park and begins by running one mile together.
"It's a 1/4 mile loop around the park," explains Abby.
β
From there, the group takes off through the streets of the Sicomac neighborhood and other Wyckoff neighborhoods.
"The route and miles we run depend on everyone's schedule," said Abby. "Members can find a group or just a buddy to run with any day of the week."
β
Abby has been a runner for 15 years and is a member of New York Road Runners Club.
"I have run half-marathons in the Tri-State area," said Abby.
β
Raised in Northern Virginia, Abby was a competitive cheerleader.
Today, in addition to being a dedicated runner, Abby also enjoys yoga at Fire Shaper Studio.
β
Abby purchased the domain name Wyckoff Run Club and plans to launch a website.
β
"I have participated in races that benefited Memorial Sloan Kettering and I am interested in having a fundraising aspect to Wyckoff Run Club," said Abby.
β
Abby is not the only runner in her house.
"My 7-year-old son, Miles, expressed interest in running, but I can't find any kid's running programs that aren't late at night," said Abby. "I am thinking about a kid's component for Wyckoff Run Club."
