Celebrating National Library Week
National Library Week is celebrated every year and is a wonderful time to highlight the valuable role libraries play in transforming lives and communities. Bringing together discovery, connection, and joy, this year's theme, "Find Your Joy", encourages everyone to visit the library and learn all that it offers to bring happiness to communities. From books and media to programming including lectures and crafts, as well as technology assistance and book clubs, there's something for everyone.
Special Author Luncheon with Jill Santopolo
This year, April 19-25 included events and programs that continue the tradition of recognizing the important role libraries have. On April 22, the Wyckoff Library hosted a luncheon at the nearby Indian Trail Club featuring special guest, New York Times bestselling author Jill Santopolo. Santopolo is the author of the Reese's Book Club pick, The Light We Lost which was a favorite selection of the Escapist Reader Book Club at the library. Tickets to the event included a buffet lunch, dessert, and the choice between two of Santopolo's books, The Love We Found, the long-awaited sequel to The Light We Lost, or her first picture book, Can You Grow a Striped Banana?, coincidentally releasing that week. In addition, previous titles including Santopolo's adult novels Stars in an Italian Sky, Everything After, and More Than Words were available for purchase and signing courtesy of the library's official book store partner, Bookends in Ridgewood.
The Rizzo Sisters' Generous Legacy
The luncheon is one of many events made possible by the generous bequest to the library by the Rizzo sisters, Evelyn and Helen. The Wyckoff Library Children's Room is named for the sisters who were longtime Wyckoff residents, teachers and active members of the community. Residents may remember seeing the sisters as they took daily walks through town - often with the library as their destination.
